Hatters Fall Despite Big Fourth-Quarter Rally

Stetson concludes non-conference play

DeLand, Fla. -- Stetson cut a 25-point second-half deficit down to 8, but Abilene Christian held on to win the final game of the Hatter Classic, 70-55, Sunday afternoon at the Edmunds Center.

Jamiya Turner led the Hatters (2-3) with a career-high 16 points, adding five assists in 33 minutes of action.  Shamari Tyson and Yazz Wazeerud-Din scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Hatters trailed 51-26 with under four minutes to go in the third quarter, but a 7-0 run gave Stetson some life.

Abilene Christian (7-2) still led by 19 with 5:33 to play in the fourth, but the Hatters got to work again.  Wazeerud-Din, Turner, and Tyson each hit 3-pointers and Day'Neshia Banks added a lay-up to cut the deficit to nine with 2:24 to play.  After a couple of missed 3s that would have cut the lead to six, Tyson connected from the arc with 49 seconds left to make it a 63-55 game.  That was as close as the Hatters would get, however, as the Wildcats scored the final seven points to secure the victory.

Alyssa Adams scored 24 points to lead Abilene Christian.

Stetson was outrebounded 46-19.  Tonysha Curry pulled down a team-high nine boards giving her 21 rebounds for the weekend.

Turner and Tyson were selected to the Hatter Classic all-tournament team.
