Hatters Fall in ASUN Opener, 90-73

Maddie Novak scores 19 points off the bench

Jacksonville, Fla. -- Maddie Novak and Yazz Wazeerud-Din combined for 37 points but UNF outlasted Stetson 90-73 in the ASUN opener for both teams Saturday afternoon at UNF Arena.

The Ospreys (3-5) shot 56 percent from the floor and 46 percent from the arc to improve to 1-0 in conference play.  Jazz Bond (23 points) and Marissa Mackins (22) combined for 45 points to lead UNF.

Stetson (2-4, 0-1) hit 12 3-pointers in the game including five from Novak, who finished with a career-high 19 points.  All five of her triples came in the second half as she went 5-for-8 from behind the arc.

Wazeerud-Din tied a aseason-high with 18 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the field. She hit three 3-pointers and added a career-best five assists.

Day'Neshia Banks scored 10 points, while Jamiya Turner chipped in nine.  Stetson shot 37.7 percent as a team.

The same two teams will square off again at 2 p.m. Sunday.

  • The last Hatter to hit five 3-pointers in a game was also Maddie Novak, on Nov. 16, 2019 vs. Saint Francis
  • Kiya Turner and Alyssa Derrick each made their first career starts
  • Day'Neshia Banks reached double figures for the 48th time in her career
  • Stetson hit 12 3-pointers in a game for just the 12th time in program history (second time this season)
  • The Hatters held a 38-21 edge in points off the bench
