Hatters Downed at Miami, 82-60

CORAL GABLES, Fla.--Miami closed the first half on a 13-0 run and never looked back as the Hurricanes downed Stetson, 82-60, Friday at Watsco Center.
 
Chase Johnston led the Hatters (0-2) with 19 points, connecting on 5 of 10 shots from 3-point range. Mahamadou Diawara had 14 points on 6 of 8 shooting, and grabbed 6 rebounds.
 
The Hurricanes (2-0) were in complete control of the game midway through the first half before the Hatters staged a comeback.
 
Trailing 25-14 with 7:41 left in the half, Stetson got back into the game via the long ball. Back-to-back baskets by freshmen Josh Smith (3-pointer) and Stephan Swenson pulled with Hatters to within 28-27 with 3:48 left before halftime.
 
But the Miami defense and offense turned it up a notch, and closed the half on a 13-0 run for a 40-27 halftime lead.
 
Miami continued to control play in the second half, pushing the lead to as much as 22 points (49-27) with 18:01 to play. After that, Stetson never got any closer than 14 (51-37, 14:37).
 
Miami's Chris Lykes led all scorers with 20 points. Isaiah Wong added 17, and both Kameron McGusty and Matt Cross chipped in 11 points.
 
Stetson shot 39 percent from the field, and was 11 of 31 from 3-point range.
 
The Hatters next visit Florida, 2 p.m., Sunday. The game will be televised on SEC Network.
