Hatters Make Quick Work of Georgia Southern

Stetson men's tennis downed Georgia Southern, 5-2, Saturday at Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.

The Hatters (5-2) swept doubles and won the first three singles matches in straight sets to clinch the victory as they won for the third time in their last four team matches.

"That was a heckuva fight," Stetson head coach Christophe Noblet said. "We play them every year and its always a battle. This was our most complete match of the year, where every member of the squad did their job. That's a lot of fun for me to see, when guys embrace the process. That mentality will take us far if we can maintain it."

The doubles team of Sven Thiergard & Fabian Penzkofer got things started in doubles play with a 6-4 win on Court 1, and Josh Laka & Tim Gennes followed suit with a 6-2 win on Court 3 to give the Hatters the doubles point.

Singles went quickly as the Hatters captured three straight wins. Thiergard was the first Hatter to claim victory with a 6-4, 6-2 win on Court 5. Penzkofer followed with a 7-6, 6-0 win on Court 4, and Clement Hamel clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win on Court 1.

Tim Gennes capped the day for the Hatters with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph on Court 6.

The Hatters next host Florida Southern, 2 p.m., Sunday.
