Hatters Knock Off North Alabama, 69-60

Hatters bounce back from Saturday's heartbreaker

DeLand, Fla. -- Day'Neshia Banks scored 19 points and Jamiya Turner added 14 as Stetson defeated North Alabama 69-60 Monday night at the Edmunds Center.

The Hatters (11-14, 5-7 ASUN) finished the game on a 15-4 run after the Lions (17-8, 8-5 ASUN) took a 2-point lead with five minutes to play.

"I was proud of our effort. We really fought tonight," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "North Alabama is a really good team, so to beat them here is a huge win for us."

The Lions entered the game in alone in second place in the ASUN standings but now find themselves tied with Jacksonville and Liberty in the loss column.  The Hatters are tied for sixth but sit just two-and-a-half games back of second place with four games to play.

The Hatters produced a solid 40-minute effort one game after letting a large second-half lead vs. Kennesaw State slip away.  Banks hit two 3-pointers and scored eight of her 19 points in the fourth quarter on Monday.

"I like the bounce back that we had," Day'Neshia Banks said.  "This is our home court. We should be playing well on our home turf. We stuck together and came out with the win."

Turner tied a season-high with 14 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field and 5-of-5 shooting from the line.  Kennedi Colclough and Megan Vincent scored nine points apiece.

Overall, Stetson shot 49 percent from the floor and 75 percent from the free throw line.

"I thought we played a complete game," Bria said.  "We were engaged the whole game, we played hard the whole game, and I thought we had different people step up.  Jamiya Turner had a really good second half for us on both ends of the floor."

Emma Wallen led the Lions with 24 points. The two teams split the season series for the second year in a row.

The Hatters will now hit the road for games at Liberty on Saturday and NJIT on Monday.
