Hatters Face Liberty on Saturday

Stetson men's basketball closes out its final road trip of the year on Saturday when the Hatters visit ASUN Conference leader Liberty in Lynchburg, Va. Tip time is set for 5 p.m.

The Hatters (15-13 overall, 9-4 ASUN) are hoping to bounce back after suffering a 78-69 loss at NJIT on Thursday. Despite the loss, Stetson clinched an ASUN Tournament quarterfinal home game next month. Stetson enters Saturday's game in third place in the conference standings, trailing Liberty by 2 games with three to play.

Christiaan Jones led Stetson with 19 points on Thursday, and Jahlil Rawley added a career-high 18 points, but it wasn't enough to overcome 50 percent shooting by the Highlanders.

Liberty (25-3, 11-2) earned an 82-77 win over North Florida, who dropped to second place with the loss.

The last time Stetson and Liberty met, the Hatters upset the Flames, 48-43, on Jan. 25 in DeLand. Rob Perry scored 22 points as the Hatters rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit.

About the Game
•The Hatters enter Saturday's game looking to solidify their standing near the top of the ASUN standings. With three games remaining, the Hatters are a virtual lock to finish no worse than third, but second and even first place is still a possibility.
•Stetson has never finished higher than third in the ASUN standings, and last did so in 2012-13
•Despite Thursday's loss at NJIT the Hatters clinched one of four home games for the quarterfinals of the ASUN Tournament on March 3. The tournament continues with the semifinals on March 5 and the championship game on March 8.
•Freshman Rob Perry, who two weeks ago at FGCU broke Stetson's single-season freshman record for 3-point field goals in a season, needs 106 points to become Stetson's leader in points by a freshman. He is chasing Derick Newton's record of 553 points, set during the 2015-16 season.
•Fellow freshman Mahamadou Diawara is also climbing the freshman scoring charts, as his 349 points this season ranks seventh.
