Hatters Drop Two at Diamond 9 Citrus Classic

Lake Buena Vista, Fla. -- Stetson dropped both games at the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic Saturday, falling 3-0 to Troy and 8-6 to Clemson at ESPN Wide World of Sports.

The Hatters (6-7) became part of Clemson's first-ever extra inning game when the two squads went into bonus frames tied 5-5.  With the international tie-break rule in effect, the Tigers (9-7) scored three runs in the top of the eighth to take an 8-5 lead.  The Hatters answered with a run of their own but couldn't push tying runs across.

Chloe Temples pitched a complete game against Troy, striking out a season-high seven over six innings of work.  She then pitched six more innings of relief against Clemson, striking out four.

Stetson managed just 10 hits on the day, getting two knocks apiece from Nikki Steiniger, Blake Crews, Brianna Clary and Alyssa Gilman.  Lizzie Shubert hit a two-run double in the second inning against Clemson.

Stetson will wrap up play in the Citrus Classic on Sunday morning vs. Oakland.  First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m.
