Shubert Hits Walk-Off Homer as Hatters Split on Saturday

DeLand, Fla. -- Lizzie Shubert's walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted Stetson to a 3-1 victory over Bethune-Cookman Saturday afternoon at Patricia Wilson Field.

Colgate defeated Stetson 6-2 in the nightcap as the Hatters (7-11) split on the second day of the Stetson Invitational.

With the score tied 1-1 and Riley Russell on third base, Shubert crushed the first pitch she saw over the left field foul pole for her first career walk-off hit.

It was the Hatters' first walk-off home run since Maggie Fritts connected for a seventh-inning home run, also against Bethune-Cookman, in 2018.

Stetson's last extra-inning walk-off home run came from Amanda Lindsey in 2010.  It was an eighth-inning grand slam to beat Kennesaw State.

Chloe Temples (6-5) picked up the win after carrying a no-hitter into the seventh inning.  She allowed just two hits and struck out five.

Against Colgate, Nyah Morgan hit her second home run in as many days and Shubert added an RBI double.  Molly McLaughlin was 2-for-2.

Jaime Tino pitched 6.2 innings of relief.

The Stetson Invitational will conclude Sunday with Bethune-Cookman facing Colgate at 10 a.m. and Stetson hosting Valparaiso at noon.
