Clutch 4th Quarter Lifts Hatters to 60-52 Win at UNF

Stetson Now Riding 3-Game Win Streak

Jacksonville, Fla. -- The Hatters may finally be putting the puzzle pieces together at just the right time.

Day'Neshia Banks scored 17 points and freshman Tippy Robertson added a career-high 15 as Stetson picked up a 60-52 conference victory over North Florida Monday night at UNF Arena.

After a 1-5 start in league play, the Hatters (10-12, 4-5 ASUN) have now won three in a row following a weekend sweep on the road.

"They are happy because I think for us, we have been through a lot," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "We have had to figure it out.  We've taken some on the chin, so they deserve to be happy.  It feels good to get better.  Even though we didn't win some of the recent games, I thought played better, we just didn't get the result.  Now it's nice to get the result.  I think we are playing with a lot of confidence right now, we just have to keep it up."

Stetson led by as many in the 13 in the first half, but near the end of the third quarter, UNF had erased the deficit and grabbed a 2-point lead.

"When they took the lead, I was curious how we would respond, and we responded really well," Bria said.

The Hatters made several clutch plays in the fourth quarter to gain back the momentum. Tonysha Curry and Tippy Robertson each turned defensive steals into fastbreak lay-ups, Day'Neshia Banks hit a short jumper after the lead was cut back down to 2, and Robertson buried a 3-pointer with 1:43 left to give Stetson some breathing room.

Stetson's defense also performed well for the third straight game.  The Hatters held UNF to just 32 percent shooting overall and 25 percent from behind the arc.

Stetson, meanwhile, shot 40 percent from the floor and 40 percent from 3-point range.  A 22-point first quarter helped the Hatters build a 6-point halftime lead.

In addition to the 32 combined points from Banks and Robertson, Megan Vincent and Kimia Carter each scored nine and Tonysha Curry scored eight.  Robertson added six rebounds, three assists and three steals to her season-high points total.

Janesha Green scored 17 points to lead the Ospreys (13-9, 6-3).

The Hatters will take a week off before visiting No. 24 FGCU on Feb. 10.

Notes:
  • The Hatters improved 10-1 when tied or leading at the half
  • Stetson's opponents are averaging just 45.0 ppg over the past three games
