Hatters Drop ASUN Opener

JACKSONVILLE—Stetson dropped its ASUN Conference lacrosse opener on Sunday, falling 18-6 at perennial power Jacksonville.

Five different players scored for the Hatters (1-2, 0-1) but Stetson couldn't maintain its early momentum throughout the game.

The Hatters opened the game by falling into a 3-0 hole less than eight minutes. But a goal by Kate Johnson and back-to-back scores by Saige-Lyn Gidzinski knotted the game at 3-3 with 15:49 remaining before halftime.

Jacksonville (3-1, 1-0) responded by scoring the next nine goals, taking a 12-3 lead when Sarah Elms scored with 48 seconds before halftime. Karli Maguire's goal 15 seconds later cut JU's lead to 12-4 at halftime.

The Dolphins scored the first three goals of the second half before Stetson's Camden Frissora got the Hatters back on the board. Her goal at 20:34 made it a 15-5 game.

Stetson's final goal came when Marian Rotella found the back of the net with 6:07 to go.

The Hatters return to action when they visit Cincinnati, 5 p.m., Friday.
