Hatters Endure Heartbreaking Loss at Cincinnati

CINCINNATI, Ohio--Five different players scored multiple goals for Stetson, but the Hatters were unable to hold a four-goal lead in the second half as Cincinnati rallied for a 16-14 win on Friday.

After taking a 7-5 lead at halftime, the Hatters (1-3) pushed their advantage to 12-8 with just over 17 minutes to play as Camden Frissora, Maria Snee and Riley Reagan combined to score three straight goals.

But the Bearcats (2-4) quickly responded by winning four straight draws and scoring each time, tying the game at 12-12 on Alyssa Adams' goal with 15:34 to go.

The game remained tied until the 8:50 mark when Stetson's Taylor Zuberer gave the Hatters a 13-12 lead on an unassisted goal. But the lead didn't last, as Cincinnati scored three straight goals over the next four-and-a-half minutes for a 15-13 advantage.

Kate Johnson got the Hatters within 15-14 on a man-up goal with 3:01 to play, but the Bearcats essentially sealed the game with their final goal less than 90 seconds later.

Marina Rotella led the Hatters with three goals, while Reagan, Frissora, Johnson and Karli Maguire each scored twice. Reagan added three assists. Sarah Trupp led the Hatters with four ground balls, and Rotella had five of Stetson's 17 draw controls.

Kiera McCarthy faced 31 shots and made 11 saves for Stetson.

The Hatters continue their road trip on Sunday when they visit Central Michigan.
