Shubert Walks Off Again as Hatters Blank Valparaiso

DeLand, Fla. -- Lizzie Shubert seems to be making a habit out of producing late-inning heroics.

For the second time in five days, Shubert hit a walk-off home run to lift Stetson to a 2-0 victory over Valparaiso Wednesday afternoon at Patricia Wilson Field.

Chloe Temples (7-6) pitched a one-hit shutout in the circle as the Hatters improved to 8-12 on the season.

With the game locked in a scoreless tie in the bottom of the seventh, Shubert blasted an 0-2 pitch over the rightcenter field fence to set off a celebration at home plate.

"Lizzie didn't leave anything at the plate on that one, and of course Chloe pitched a great game," head coach Frank Griffin said.  "Molly got on base to make it happen."

Molly McLaughlin got the rally started with a two-out single to left. She then stole second ahead of the game-winning homer.

Shubert also hit a two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth inning against Bethune-Cookman on Saturday. She is the sixth Hatter to hit two career walk-off home runs, and she is just the second Hatter with two walk-off home runs in the same season (Amanda Lindsey, 2010).  She is the first player to do so in a five-day span.

Temples struck out a season-high eight batters and did not allow a Crusader to reach third base. It is the first one-hit shutout for a Hatter pitcher since Tori Perkins accomplished the feat against FGCU in 2018.

Stetson will return home this weekend to host the Hatter Invitational with Northern Kentucky, Sacred Heart and Fairfield providing the compeition.
