Lizzie Shubert to Play for Myakka City River Mocs

DeLand, Fla. -- Stetson softball junior Lizzie Shubert has been selected to play for the Myakka City River Mocs of the Florida Gulf Coast League.

The FGCL is a newly formed collegiate summer league anticipating to play a 25-game schedule beginning in June. The season will include an All-Star/Parent Weekend, as well as special events throughout the season. Players will also have access to indoor facilities for training. 

The league is consists of 12 teams located in the Tampa area stretching from Clearwater south to Sarasota. Some of teams scheduled to compete include the Bradenton Slice, Manatee Squeeze, IA Lions, SUA Pioneers, Myakka City River Mocs, Bradenton Lynx, Sarasota Cat 5, Madeira Beach Boom, Madeira Beach Mayhem, and Madeira Beach Surf.

Myakka City is located in Manatee County 30 miles southeast of Bradenton.

Shubert, a 5-8 shortstop, batted a career-best .330 with five home runs and 23 RBI in 2020. She also led the Hatters in hits (29), doubles (7), total bases (53), and slugging pct. (.602).  She became the first player in school history to hit two walk-off home runs in a week, doing so against Bethune-Cookman on Feb. 29 and Valparaiso on March 4.

Shubert has hit 15 home runs in her career, ranking her 13th in school history.  She is a native of Waycross, Ga. and a product of Ware County High School.
