Kristy Brown Elected to ASUN Hall of Fame

Brown becomes the fifth Hatter to join ASUN Hall

ATLANTA -- Former Stetson women's basketball great Kristy Brown has been elected to the ASUN Conference Hall of Fame, the league announced on Wednesday.

Joining Brown in the ASUN Hall of Fame Class of 2020 are FGCU softball player Cheyenne Jenks, FIU baseball player Mike Lowell, and Lipscomb volleyball player Alex Kelly. The four honorees will be inducted during online ceremonies on October 4, 2020.

A former ASUN Student-Athlete of the Year, Brown was the centerpiece of Stetson's 2005 ASUN Conference Championship and first NCAA Tournament appearance. The 6-foot-2 center captured tournament Most Valuable Player honors after hitting a game-winning shot against UCF in the semifinals and scoring 28 points against Georgia State in the championship.

After competing in 107 games from 2001-05, Brown finished her career as the Hatters' all-time second-leading scorer with 1,522 points and second-leading rebounder with 941 career rebounds. She averaged 14.2 points and a school-record 8.9 rebounds-per-game, and she still holds the single-game record with a 24-rebound effort against Charleston Southern.

In 2004-05, Brown led the entire ASUN in scoring (16.8 ppg) and rebounding (10.8 ppg) en route to her second straight First Team All-Conference selection.  She was also a three-time ASUN Player of the Week honoree.

Brown excelled in the classroom as well, earning CoSIDA Academic First Team All-District honors in 2005. She was a four-time ASUN All-Academic Team selection and graduated from Stetson in just three-and-a-half years. She also earned her Master's Degree from Stetson in 2006. For her efforts in the classroom, Brown was awarded the Edward B. Henderson Award for the most outstanding graduating senior in Education, as well as the Ray V. Sowers Award for the most outstanding graduating senior in Elementary Education. She was also an honorable mention for the Division I-AAA Athletic Directors Scholar-Athlete awards.

In the community, Brown was the FCA President and SAAC Social Chair at Stetson. She was involved with such charitable causes as Habitat for Humanity, Operation Christmas Child, Locks of Love and Relay for Life. She also tutored English as a Second Language elementary students for three years. Her positive attitude, strong work ethic, and charismatic leadership skills landed her several other awards, including the Stetson Melching Leadership Award, the Wendell N. Jarrard Award, the Distinguished Senior Award, and the Atlanta Boy Scouts Council Peach of an Athlete Role Model Award. For her success on the court, in the classroom, and in the community, Brown was named the 2005 ASUN Female Student-Athlete of the Year.

Brown earned her Doctorate of Education in Elementary Education and Teaching from Kennesaw State University in 2014 and is currently the Director of Assessment and Accreditation at Augusta University.  She was inducted into the Stetson Athletics Hall of Fame in 2010.

Brown is the fifth Hatter all-time elected to the ASUN Hall of Fame. She follows Dr. Glenn Wilkes (2015), Corey Kluber (2015), Chris Westervelt (2017), and Dr. Taryn Lynn Morgan (2019).
