Hatters Rally Again, Down Bellarmine 71-67

Stetson scores 30 in the 4th Quarter

DeLand, Fla. -- Stetson erupted for 30 points in the fourth quarter to rally for a 71-67 victory over visiting Bellarmine Saturday afternoon at the Edmunds Center.

Trailing by eight points after 3, the Hatters outscored the Knights 30-18 in the final period to post their second straight come-from-behind victory.

Stetson (4-4, 2-1 ASUN) received several clutch performances throughout the lineup, including a career-high 16 points from senior Tonysha Curry.  The Hatter forward was 8-for-9 from the floor with five rebounds to help lead the comeback.

Tippy Robertson and Yazz Wazeerud-Din chipped in 12 points apiece.  Wazeerud-Din scored 10 points alone in the fourth quarter.  Maddie Novak hit a pair of fourth-quarter 3s - including the go-ahead bucket - and finished with 10 points.

The Hatters led by 3 at the break, but the Knights (0-10, 0-4) used a third-quarter run to take a 49-41 lead into the fourth.

Stetson chipped away but still trailed by 6 with 7:17 to go when Curry's putback cut the deficit to 4. Novak then followed with a 3 to pull Stetson within 1.   With just over four minutes to play, Curry gave the Hatters a momentary 57-56 lead with another putback, but Tasia Jeffries hit from long range to put Bellarmine back on top by 2.  However, Novak immediately answered with a 3 of her own to give Stetson the lead for good.

The Hatters made 9 of 10 free throws down the stretch and Robertson pulled down a key defensive rebound in the final minute of play to secure the victory.

Stetson shot 46 percent from the floor and 87 percent (20-for-23) from the free throw line.

Ashlee Harris led the Knights with 14 points.

The same two teams will meet again at 1 p.m. Sunday.
