Scattergood and Jack lead Hatters to fifth-straight win on Senior Day

DeLand, Fla. -- The Stetson University men's soccer team won its fifth-straight match Tuesday night as the Hatters topped Florida Atlantic University 1-0 behind a late first half goal from Lewis Scattergood

The first half of Tuesday's match got out to a slow pace as neither team found a shot opportunity until the Hatters (6-4-2) found a chance in the 20' with a shot from Maxime Allione but was saved by the Owls keeper. In the 43', Ajmeer Spengler sent a ball from midfield up to Scattergood who found the back of the FAU net to give the Hatters a 1-0 edge headed to the break.

In the second stanza, the Hatters got out to a much faster pace as Spengler and Daniel Wintermeier each had shot opportunities in the first five minutes of the half. In the 63' and 64', Gio Rodriguez, Spengler and Scattergood each had shots on goal but could not capitalize. In the 81', Connor Bates came within inches of giving the Hatters a two-score lead as his shot hit off the crossbar and deflected to Spengler who took his fourth shot of the match but left it high over the net.

The Hatters back line kept the Owls (6-3-2) at bay as the defense helf FAU to 10 shots while keeper Owen Jack was 5-for-5 in save opportunities.

"I'm really happy. The game started off really difficult for us," said Hatters head coach Emmett Rutkowski. "It was special. A great pass from Dan to Ajmeer to Lewis and it was a class finish. He just made a play and that's what you need to do in a one-goal game."

Tuesday's win was Stetson's fifth consecutive as Hatters current five-match win streak is tied for the longest streak since 2011. The win was also the team's third consecutive 1-0 shutout, and fourth overall on the year.

Stetson's men's soccer team looks to extend its streak to six-straight on Saturday, Oct. 16 as the Hatters take on North Florida in a crucial ASUN Conference battle. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
