Spengler named Hatters fourth ASUN player of the week

Atlanta, Ga. -- Stetson University men's soccer sophomore Ajmeer Spengler was named the Atlantic Sun Conference player of the week for the week ending Oct. 25, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon.

On Saturday, Stetson clinched an ASUN conference championship playoff spot as the Hatters topped Bellarmine 4-2. In the win, Spengler, a Tampa native, scored twice, including the game-winner, and assisted on a goal from Nelson Pereira to seal the 4-2 win.

With his two-score performance, Spengler tied teammate Oliver Bryneus with five goals on the year and is now second on the team in points with 12. Spengler is also tied for sixth in the conference in both goals scored and total points.

Spengler joins teammates Felix Aakerberg, Jacob Gruber (defensive player of the week) and Nelson Pereira as the fourth Hatter to win the ASUN player of the week award in 2021.

Stetson boasts a 7-5-2 overall record and 4-2-0 in ASUN action as the Hatters are currently tied with Lipscomb for second place in the ASUN standings.

Spengler and the Stetson men's soccer team close out the 2021 regular season on Saturday, Oct. 30 as the Hatters travel to FGCU for a bout against the Eagles. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
