Hatters fall 2-1 in OT at FGCU to close out regular season action

Fort Myers, Fla. -- The Stetson University men's soccer team closed out its 2021 regular season with a hard-fought match but the Hatters ultimately fell 2-1 in overtime at FGCU Saturday night.
 
Saturday night's match was aggressive from the opening whistle. The Hatters (7-6-2, 4-3-0) found a corner kick opportunity in the 7' but had nothing to show from it. A minute later, the Eagles took a corner kick of their own and found a shot opportunity but it was to no avail. Stetson's first shot did not come until the 10' when Maxime Allione aimed for the bottom right of the FGCU net but the Eagles keeper made the save. In the 20', the Eagles took a 1-0 lead as Marcos Da Paz found the back of the Hatters net on an assist from O'Vante Mullings. 
 
From the 19' to the 34', the Stetson offense could not muster a shot, but then in the 38', Lewis Scattergood found the back of the FGCU net on a deflected corner kick to knot the match at one apiece and send it to intermission. 
 
The second half saw limited opportunities for both the Hatters and Eagles as Stetson and FGCU combined for only six shots in the half after totaling 11 in the first, sending the match into overtime. 
 
In only 1:26 into the overtime period, FGCU's Aiden Jokomba ended the match as he found the bottom left corner of the Hatters net on a double assist from Steven Saunders and Miles Robinson.
 
The Hatters finished the regular season with a 7-6-2 overall record and 4-3-0 in ASUN action. 

The Stetson men's soccer team will be back in action in the ASUN Championship tournament beginning Friday, Nov. 5. Stay tuned for updates on final seeding.
