Atlanta, Ga. -- The Atlantic Sun Conference announced its 2021-22 ASUN Men's Basketball Preseason Honors and Awards Wednesday afternoon as Rob Perry was selected to the Preseason All-Conference team and Stetson was tabbed to finish eighth in the ASUN.
In the Preseason Men's Basketball Coach's poll, the Hatters were tabbed to finish eighth out of the conference's 12 teams as Stetson garnered 67 total points. Liberty University earned the top spot with 141 points and nine first place votes. The other three votes for the top spot went to Eastern Kentucky, Bellarmine and North Florida. Following Liberty were EKU (126) and Jacksonville State (103) and then in the middle were Bellarmine (97), Lipscomb (89), FGCU (88), and UNF (82). Rounding out the poll were UNA (49), Jacksonville (40), Kennesaw State (37), and Central Arkansas (17).
Stetson comes off a 2020-21 season in which the Hatters reached the ASUN semifinals, going 12-15 in 27 games played. After falling to Liberty in the ASUN semifinals, the Hatters participated in the College Basketball Invitational. In its first game of the CBI, Stetson topped Bowling Green 53-52 to capture the program's first postseason win since the Hatters moved up to Division I status in 1971. The Hatter were later knocked out in the second round by Coastal Carolina.
Rob Perry, a junior from Orlando was the only Hatter selected to the Preseason All-Conference Team. A year ago, Perry started all 27 games for the Hatters as the Orlando native led the team in minutes (869), total points (389) and points per game (14.4). Perry's 14.4 points per game ranked seventh in the ASUN while also coming in fourth in the conference with 56 made three-pointers. He reached the double-digit scoring mark 19 times, including seven games with 20 or more points.
The Stetson men's basketball team kicks off the 2021-22 season on Nov. 9 as the Hatters host Florida Memorial on Glenn Wilkes Court in the Edmunds Center. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
