Hatters set to take on Central Arkansas for first time

Conway, Ark. -- The Stetson men's soccer team gets set to square off against Central Arkansas in an ASUN Conference matinee on Saturday, Oct. 9 in Conway, Arkansas. Kickoff between the Hatters and the Bears is set for 1 p.m. EST.

Stetson's midweek match against Mercer University was canceled Tuesday evening due to inclement field conditions. 
 
Scouting the Bears
Central Arkansas enters Saturday's match with an 8-2 overall record and a 3-0 record in ASUN action. The Bears are making noise in the national rankings as Central Arkansas received votes in the latest NCAA Division I men's soccer rankings. Central Arkansas comes off a 1-1 stretch last week as the Bears topped FGCU 2-1 on Oct. 2, but then fell to Oral Roberts 4-1 on Oct. 5. 
 
Alberto Suarez leads the Bears offense with six goals and 13 points overall. Vicent Abaso and Karim Diao each have four goals and nine points on the year. Central Arkansas goalkeeper Zach Schawl holds a .692 save percentage with an 8-1 record and five shutouts for the Bears. 
 
All-Time Series 
Saturday's meeting between the Hatters and the Bears will be the first all-time meeting between the two schools. 
 
Hatters Notes
Stetson comes into Saturday's match riding a three-match win streak as the Hatters upset Lipscomb 3-2 in overtime back on Sept. 25 and then won a pair of 1-0 shutouts against Georgia Southern on Sept. 28 and Jacksonville on Oct. 2. 
 
Oliver Bryneus continues to lead the Hatters with five goals and 11 points on the year. Nelson Pereira's four goals are good for second and Ajmeer Spengler's three are good for third. Stetson is tied for 33rd in the country with 20 total team goals and is tied for 35th in the nation averaging two goals per match. 
 
Looking Ahead
After the Hatters match against Central Arkansas, Stetson returns home for three straight beginning with FAU on Oct. 12 when the Hatters celebrate Senior Day with ceremonies beginning at 6:40 p.m. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
