Nyah Molina Named ASUN Defensive Player of the Week

Atlanta, Ga. -- Stetson University freshman setter Nyah Molina (Orlando, Fla.) has been named ASUN Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

Molina averaged 9.6 assists, 5.0 digs, and 0.3 blocks per set last week. Her 28 digs against UNF on Saturday set a Stetson rally-scoring-era record for most digs in a match by a setter and tied for the second-highest digs total for any ASUN player this season. She dished out 43 assists with 17 digs in a 3-1 win over Jacksonville on Friday, helping Stetson clinch an ASUN Championship berth. She collected 44 assists in the five-set match vs. UNF to record her ninth straight double-double.  She added six kills and three service aces on the week.

On the season, Molina is averaging 9.0 assists and 3.6 digs-per-set.  She leads the ASUN in digs among non-liberos and ranks fifth in assists and seventh in digs among all players. The Lake Nona High School product has also recorded 19 double-doubles on the season.

Molina is the first Stetson setter to earn ASUN Defensive Player of the Week honors. She has also been named ASUN Freshman of the Week twice this season.

The Hatters (12-13, 7-6 ASUN) will visit Kennesaw State on Friday and Liberty on Sunday.
