Rob Perry reaches 1000 career points in Hatters 104-58 routing of Johnson University

DeLand, Fla. -- On the same night that the Stetson University men's basketball team ended its four-game losing streak, Rob Perry crossed the 1000 career-point threshold as the Hatters routed Johnson University 104-58 Monday night at the Edmunds Center.

At the 18:34 mark in the first half, Perry, a junior from Orlando became the 37th Hatter to reach 1000 career points as he sunk a 3-point basket to put Stetson on top 6-0. By the 10-minute mark in the half, the Hatters (3-6) jumped out to 25-10 lead after a Christiaan Jones fastbreak layup. By the end of the half, the Hatters led by 30 as Chase Johnston recorded 14 points with four triples sending Stetson into the break ahead 52-22.

In the second half, the Hatters got out to a slower start as the Suns (3-8) cut the deficit to 23 with the Hatters leading 64-41 with 12:54 left in regulation. Stetson poured it on for the remainder of the contest as the Hatters took an 88-48 lead after an Aubin Gateretse jumper with 6:13 left. With two minutes remaining, Davante Robinson connected on his first 3-point field goal of the year while Wyatt Hollmann brought down his first two boards of the season. After a Tasos Cook steal, with 16 seconds left, Alex Crawford put an exclamation point on the contest as the freshman threw down a thunderous dunk on an assist off the glass from Giancarlo Valdez to seal the Hatters victory.

Johnston led all Hatters scorers with 17 points while Jones tallied 16 of his own. Freshman Alvin Tumblin went a perfect 6-for-6 from the field in route to his second career double figure performance.

Twelve Hatters scored in Monday night's game with six reaching double figures. It was the first time five or more Hatters reached double figures since five Hatters tallied double-digits in Stetson's 82-72 win over North Alabama in the ASUN Conference tournament on March 3, 2020. The Hatters 104-point total was the most points for a Stetson team since the Hatters topped Johnson 116-66 back on Nov. 7, 2018.

The Stetson University men's basketball team concludes its three-game home stretch on Thursday, Dec. 16 as the Hatters host College of Charleston. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
