Hatters Fall 69-50 in Battle With the Bulls

Tatiana Streun Registers Her 1000th Career Point

Tampa, Fla. -- Stetson battled toe-to-toe for the better part of 35 minutes with 16th-ranked USF, but the Bulls pulled away down the stretch for a 69-50 victory Wednesday afternoon in front of 2,847 fans at the Yuengling Center.

The Hatters (6-5) outscored the Bulls (7-3) in the first and third quarters, including a 7-0 run to start the game.  Tatiana Streun scored her 1000th career point on a 3-pointer late in the first quarter. Ayanna Dublin followed with a buzzer-beating jumper as Stetson led 19-17 after 1.

"I thought we had a great start to the game," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "Really happy with our effort overall. South Florida is a very good team.  I thought overall we played a good game."

Stetson led 23-21 in the second quarter when the Bulls went on a 16-0 run to take a 47-35 lead into the break.  The Hatters got back to within six in the third quarter and to within seven in the fourth but could pull no closer.

"I thought the end of the half got away from us a little bit," Bria added.  "I thought we came out in the third quarter and played great.  I thought our energy was good. We played hard.  We just had some opportunities in the paint I thought we overpassed the ball a little bit."

Tippy Robertson made her first start of the year and led the Hatters with a season-high 12 points.  Kiya Turner scored 11 while Khamya McNeal and Dublin each chipped in nine.

Stetson hit six 3-pointers and shot 80 percent from the free throw line.

Elisa Pinzan led the Bulls with 12 points on 5-for-7 shooting.  The Bulls blocked nine Stetson shots.

Bria was pleased with the team's response following Sunday's loss at Holy Cross.

"Vastly (improved)," Bria said. "That was just not our character. Not the nature of this group. This group, they've played together, they've fought, they've played hard, and they did that today."

Stetson will host VCU at 11 a.m. Friday in the first game of the Hatter Classic.  Stetson will also host Tennessee State at 11 a.m. Sunday.
