Strong Second Half Propels Hatters Past Furman 67-58

Stetson improves to 4-1 over past five games

Greenville, S.C. -- Ayanna Dublin went a perfect 8-for-8 from the floor with six rebounds and eight assists as Stetson defeated Furman 67-58 Saturday afternoon at Timmons Arena.

Yazz Wazeerud-Din added 17 points for the Hatters (5-3), who won for the fourth time in their last five games.

"I thought we came out in the second half and played really well," head coach Lynn Bria said.  "I thought our first half was good.  We missed some free throws there that we normally make."

On the day when the Hatters made just 1-of-12 3-pointers and shot 44 percent from the free throw line, Stetson relied heavily on its inside game.  The Hatters shot 62 percent from 2-point range and held a commanding 52-16 advantage in points in the paint.

Stetson shot 50 percent overall and held a 43-41 edge on the glass.  Kiya Turned pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

Khamya McNeal returned the Hatters' lineup and scored six points in just over eight minutes of action, finishing with a team-high plus-15 rating.

"We played a lot of players today," Bria said.  "We had different people step up.  I thought Ayanna had a great game. I thought Kiya probably had one of her best games of the year as far as running the offense and being the point guard.  That was a really good team effort today against a very good Furman team."

Stetson led 14-10 after 1, 26-23 at the half, and 48-37 after 3. A 10-0 Stetson run in the fourth quarter helped seal the victory.

Furman's Tierra Hodges led all players with 24 points and 15 rebounds. The Paladins (5-3) shot just 30 percent from the floor.

Stetson completed its seven-game road swing with a 4-3 mark. The Hatters return home to face Florida National at 5 p.m. Saturday night.
