Hatters Improve to 6-3 with 56-Point Win over Florida National

Yazz Wazeerud-Din stays hot

DeLand, Fla. -- Yazz Wazeerud-Din scored 21 points behind 8-for-10 shooting as Stetson cruised to a 91-35 victory over Florida National Monday night at the Edmunds Center.

Ten different Hatters dented the scoresheet as Stetson (6-3) won for the fifth time in its last six games.

The Hatters hit a season-high 10 3-pointers on 43 percent shooting from behind the arc.

"It was much better because we made the extra pass," head coach Lynn Bria said about Stetson's perimeter shooting.  "We had good shots, but we took great shots. I think that's what we haven't been doing. We've just been taking average shots.  It was really nice to see, and that's why we had so many assists, but we had way too many turnovers.  It was sloppy."

The Conquistadors (1-7) forced Stetson into 20 turnovers, a handful coming off their full-court press. However, Stetson held a 47-21 edge in rebounding and a 38-10 advantage in points in the paint.

Wazeerud-Din hit four 3-pointers on the night and scored 18 of her 21 points in the first half.  Jamiya Turner scored 12 points on 6-for-6 shooting.  Mali Morgan-Elliott scored nine points and dished out six assists.  Ayanna Dublin and Kiya Turner also chipped in nine points apiece.

"It was really good to see Yazz score the ball well, and Mali having six assists," Bria said.  "She made some great passes.  We shared the ball really well today - made the extra pass and found the open man."

Stetson shot 50% or better in every quarter and finished with team field goal percentage of .550.  The Hatters were also 10-of-23 from the arc and 15-for-19 from the free-throw line, while registering 21 assists and 18 steals.

The Hatters will return to action at Noon on Sunday at Holy Cross.  The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
