Fiacco Nets a Pair as Hatters Down FIU

Stetson's Jackie Fiacco scored twice to lead the Hatters to a 3-1 victory over FIU Thursday night at the Athletic Training Center.

The Hatters (1-1) quickly put their opening-day loss behind them, jumping out to a 2-0 lead on the Panthers early in the first half. Fiacco opened the scoring for Stetson on a feed from Jordan Schaefer in the 17th minute.
 
Sophomore Maggie Struble, Stetson's leading scorer a season ago, tacked on to the Hatter lead with her first goal of the season midway through the first half. Alexa LoBasso provided the assist.
 
In the 81st minute, Fiacco iced the match for Stetson in extraordinary fashion, firing a free kick off the crossbar and into the back of the net to put the Hatters up, 3-1.
 
"I think sometimes the best goals come from less thinking and just picturing the ball hitting the back of the net," Fiacco said.
 
Ashleigh Wise made her season debut in net for the Hatters, finishing with four saves on the night. She kept the Hatters in front with two highlight-reel stops late in the second half.  
 
The Hatters will take the rest of this weekend off before traveling to take on Jacksonville on Sunday, Feb. 28.
