Hatters Draw with Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.--Stetson women's soccer scored twice in the first half but the Hatters were unable to hold on, settling for a 2-2 tie with Jacksonville in the ASUN Conference opener for both teams on Sunday.

The Hatters (1-1-1 overall, 0-0-1 ASUN) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, netting two goals in less than five minutes of play midway through the first half. Britney Bertram opened the scoring for Stetson with a goal in the 23rd minute, getting an assist from Sanna Widstrom.

Senior Lily Truong followed with her second goal of the season in the 26th minute, unassisted, as Stetson went up 2-0.

Stetson entered the second half in full control, but the Hatters couldn't keep the Dolphins (0-5-2). Jacksonville's Shelby Brim scored twice in the final 20 minutes, including the equalizer in the 89th minute, to pull the Dolphins (0-5-1, 0-0-1) even with Stetson to end regulation.

Overtime was uneventful for both squads. Each team managed one shot in the extra minutes.

The Hatters return home this weekend to take on North Florida, Saturday, March 6, at 7 p.m.
