Hatters Shut Down Kennesaw State

Stetson holds KSU to 32 Points

Kennesaw, Ga. -- Kiya Turner led the way with 16 points as Stetson downed Kennesaw State 49-32 Saturday afternoon at the KSU Convocation Center.

The Hatters (6-10, 4-7 ASUN) set a school-record for fewest points allowed to a conference opponent (32) in taking Game 1 of the two-game weekend series.

After falling behind 11-5 five minutes into the game, Stetson clamped down on defense. Kennesaw State (6-10, 1-10) managed just eight points the rest of the half, and Stetson used a 12-0 run to take a four-point lead into the break.

In the third quarter, Jamiya Turner and Kiya Turner hit back-to-back buckets in the opening minute to extend the Hatters' lead to nine.  Maddie Novak's 3-pointer late in the quarter gave Stetson a 12-point lead, and the Owls never got back within single digits the rest of the way.

Kiya Turner was 6-for-13 from the floor with five rebounds and two assists.  Maddie Novak buried three triples and scored 10 points in 31 minutes of action.  Yazz Wazeerud-Din registered four rebounds and four steals but netted just five points, ending her 11-game double-figure scoring streak.

Kennesaw State made just 13 field goals in the game while committing 26 turnovers.  Both teams shot just over 30 percent from the floor.  The Hatters hit six 3-pointers while the Owls connected on just one.

The same two teams will square off again at 2 p.m. Sunday with live coverage on ESPN+.
