Hatters Edged by Lipscomb

DeLAND--Lipscomb shot 63 percent in the second half and closed the game on an 18-8 run as the Bisons downed Stetson, 69-61, in an ASUN Conference game on Saturday at Edmunds Center.
 
Chase Johnston led the Hatters (7-10 overall, 4-6 ASUN) with 15 points and Rob Perry added 14 but Stetson couldn't stop the Bisons (12-9, 6-4) down the stretch.
 
Leading 53-51 with 5:47 left in the game, the Hatters missed seven straight shots as Lipscomb went on a 7-0 run, taking a 58-53 lead with 1:46 to go.
 
Perry stopped the bleeding for Stetson with a jumper at 1:36 to get the Hatters within 58-55, but that was as close as the Hatters got.
 
Stetson led 26-22 at halftime but couldn't hold on.
 
The Bisons made six straight free throws in the final 30 seconds to seal the game.
 
Romeao Ferguson led Lipscomb with 20 points, while parker Hazen chipped in 14.
 
Johnston was 6 of 14 form the field, and Perry was 6 of 15. The duo combined to make just 5-19 shots from 3-point range.
 
Josh Smith and Mahamadou Diawara each had 7 rebounds to lead the Hatters.
 
Game Notes
  • Johnston reached double figures for the 14th time this season, while Perry reached the mark for the 13th time
  • Stetson was 11 of 29 from 3-point range, the 10th time this season the Hatters have made at least 10 shots from beyond the arc
  • Freshman Stephan Swenson had 7 assists, the 5th time this season he's had at least 5 dimes in the same game
  • Stetson attempted a season-low 4 free throws
 
Up Next
The Hatters are currently scheduled to be off next weekend, but that's expected to change as the ASUN is likely to adjust the conference schedule.
