Hatters, FGCU Play to Scoreless Draw

Stetson men's soccer and ASUN Conference leader FGCU grinded to a scoreless tie Friday night at the Athletic Training Center.
 
It was a gritty, physical match between the two squads. FGCU (2-1-3, 2-0-2 ASUN) outshot the Hatters 20-10 on the night, but Stetson (0-3-2, 0-2-2 ASUN) held the Eagles off the board. Stetson head coach Emmet Rutkowski was pleased with his team's resiliency.
 
"One of the biggest things we have been working on is not giving up," Rutkowski said. "We did just that, so I was really happy. The effort was incredible."
 
Jacob Gruber made his debut in net for the Hatters in the match. The former backup at Indiana made four saves and looked comfortable in net for Stetson. Rutkowski was impressed with his keeper.
 
"Jacob was big time," Rutkowski said. "He's not just a really good player but a great leader. That's the kind of performance you want in his college debut."
 
The Hatters will return to the ATC next weekend to take on UNF, Saturday, March 27, at 7 p.m.
