Hatters Fall to Cleveland State in WBI Semifinal

Jamiya Turner records second straight double-double

Frankfort, Ky. -- The Stetson Hatters nearly pulled off another second-half comeback, but Cleveland State held on down the stretch for a 64-54 win Saturday afternoon at the William Exum Center.

The Vikings (13-9) advance to Sunday's WBI Championship game to play the Portland - Northern Arizona winner.  The Hatters (10-14) will face the loser of that contest in the 3rd-place game at 5 p.m. Sunday.

Jamiya Turner registered her second straight double-double Saturday. The Hatter sophomore scored 20 points on 10-for-14 shooting and grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds.  It was her third double-double of the season.

Yazz Wazeerud-Din scored 17 points and hit twice from the arc to extend her 3-point field goal streak to 16 consecutive games. She has scored in double figures in 20 of 24 games this season.

Maddie Novak added eight points and five rebounds.

Destino Leo scored 21 points to lead the Vikings.

In the first-ever meeting between the two teams, Cleveland State led 32-22 at the break. The Hatters battled back and grabbed the lead early in the fourth quarter on a 3-point play from Wazeerud-Din. Leo answered with a traditional 3-pointer to put the Vikings back on top for good.  Stetson was still within three points at the 3:49 mark of the fourth quarter but would pull no closer.

The Hatters had rallied from 10-down to defeat Loyola Chicago on Friday.
