Hatters Fall at FGCU

Box Score FGCU's Louise Lillback scored twice to lead the Eagles over Stetson, 3-0, in ASUN Conference women's soccer, Saturday afternoon in Fort Myers.

The Hatters (1-4-1, 0-3-1 ASUN) came out strong to begin the match. Stetson nearly jumped on the Eagles early in the first half, but an offsides call wiped a potential Hatter goal off the board.

The two teams entered halftime even at 0-0. Stetson head coach Chris Bergmann was pleased the way his team came out to start the match.

"It was a really strong first half," Bergmann said. "We had the momentum. It was a good battle."

Things shifted quickly after the break. In the 47th minute, FGCU's leading scorer, Lillback, broke the scoreless tie.

The Eagles (4-2-2, 2-2-0 ASUN) would go on to add two more goals in the match – Alyssa Abbondandolo scored in the 63rd minute and Lillback added another goal in the final minutes to cap off the Eagles 3-0 win.

FGCU gave the Hatters all that they could handle on defense, finishing with 20 shots to Stetson's six. Jackie Fiacco led Stetson with three shots, and Ashleigh Wise made seven saves in the effort.

Bergmann expects a quick rebound from his team.

"It is a really good learning experience," Bergmann said. "We have got to make adjustments, and we all have to buy into them and keep moving forward. We take the adversity and what we learned from today, and we will be ready for next week."

The Hatters will travel to Jacksonville next week to take on UNF for the penultimate match of the spring campaign, Sunday, March 28, at 6 p.m.
