Hatters Split on Day 1 in Leesburg

Lizzie Shubert goes deep and drives in four

Leesburg, Fla. -- Riley Russell had four hits on the day and Lizzie Shubert homered and drove in four runs as Stetson split a pair of games Friday afternoon at the Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex.

Toledo took the opener 6-3 before the Hatters (2-4) bounced back with a 9-2 win over Middle Tennessee.  Jaime Tino went the distance in the circle to pick up her first win of the season.

The Hatters jumped on Middle Tennessee for five runs in the first and a run in the second to take an early 6-0 lead.  Lizzie Shubert added a two-run home run in the sixth and a sacrifice fly in the seventh to cap the scoring.  All four of her RBI on the day came against Middle Tennessee.

Tino made the lead hold up, scattering 10 hits over seven innings.  She walked none and struck out three.

Russell and Brianna Clary had three hits apiece, while Russell, Shubert and Elizabeth Jackson each scored two runs.  Stetson pounded out 12 hits and stole seven bases.

Chloe Temples had two hits to lead the Hatters against Toledo, but the lefthander took the loss in the circle. She walked none and struck out seven, tying a career-high.

The Hatters will try and beat the rain Saturday by moving up their scheduled start times up one hour.  Stetson will face South Dakota at 10 am and Central Michigan at 3 pm at the Spring Games continue.
