Hatters Rally for Overtime Win Over JU in Regular Season Finale

Stetson comes back from 16 down to complete weekend sweep

DeLand, Fla. -- Four times this season, the Hatters have battled back from double-digit second half deficits, only to come up a few points short at the final buzzer.  Stetson found itself in a similar position again against Jacksonville on Saturday.  Trailing by 16 points in the third quarter, the Hatters had cut the deficit to 6 with 3:21 to go.

"That's what I told them when I called that timeout with 3 minutes left," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "I said we come back, and we come back, we have to pull this one out.  It's time for us to win one.  We've put in all this work, now we have to finish this and take the game."

Jamiya Turner's 3-pointer with 28 seconds left helped send the game to overtime, and Stetson outscored Jacksonville 7-3 in the extra period to capture a 68-64 come-from-behind victory Saturday afternoon at the Edmunds Center.

The Hatters (9-12, 7-9 ASUN) completed a two-game sweep of the Dolphins (3-16, 1-13) and clinched the No. 5 seed for next week's ASUN Championship.

After coming out of that timeout with 3:21 left, Jamiya Turner and Kiya Turner combined to score nine points down the stretch to help Stetson pull even.

The Hatters got just one basket in overtime - courtesy of Kiya Turner - and Yazz Wazeerud-Din and Megan Vincent hit crucial free throws as Stetson earned its second overtime win of the season.

"I thought Kiya responded wonderfully (in the second half)," Bria said.  "Jamiya had a great game - hit a couple of big shots, but that was a big 3.  I thought Megs had the best game of her career, both offensively and defensively.  Yazz had a tough day scoring, but she did a lot of other things that were really good for us.  I was just really happy with our second half effort."

Playing in her final home game as a Hatter, Vincent went out and scored 16 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, and collected eight blocks, including the 200th of her career in overtime.  She is the third player in school history and 11th player in ASUN history to reach that milestone.  It was second straight double-double performance.

She, along with Tonysha Curry and Maria Visone, were honored in pregame senior day festivities.

Jamiya Turner scored a career-high 21 points and Kiya Turner added 14.  Stetson blocked 12 shots as a team.

Stetson will face No. 4 seed Lipscomb in the ASUN Championship quarterfinals on Thursday in Kennesaw, Ga.  Game times have not yet been announced.
