Hatters Fall 1-0 to FGCU in Regular Season Finale

Seniors Delaney Peery, Erin McRae and Lily Truong honored before the game

DeLand, Fla. -- Ashley Labbe's goal in the 17th minute proved to be the only marker of the match as FGCU defeated Stetson 1-0 Friday night at the ATC.

The Hatters (1-6-1, 0-5-1) honored their three seniors prior to the match, then went out and controlled a majority of the play.  Stetson outshot FGCU 10-8 including 6-1 in shots on goal.  The Hatters also held a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.

Labbe's goal came on a cross that was deflected into the back of the net by a Hatter defender. It was the Eagle's only shot on goal of the contest.

"We played fantastic," Stetson head coach Chris Bergmann said. "We held them to one shot on goal and forced them to make six saves. FGCU is a team that has beaten us over the years, but I thought we took it to them. This is the direction we're moving forward as a team, and I'm very proud of them."

The Eagles improved to 6-2-2, 4-2.

The Hatters will now set their sights on the ASUN Championship.  Stetson will face UNF next Saturday in Jacksonville for a quarterfinal round matchup.

"It is a mentality that we have, that we know we can play with anybody," Bergmann said.  We've done great against every single one of our conference foes. Now it's playoff time, and we're ready to go. It's about finishing our opportunities. We have a great fight to us and we're just going to carry that into playoffs."

Saturday's game time has yet to be announced.
