Hatters Split with UNF to Open ASUN Series

Elizabeth Jackson goes 3-for-4 with two RBI

Jacksonville, Fla. -- A four-run sixth inning proved to be the difference in Stetson's 6-2 victory over UNF in Game 1 of an ASUN doubleheader Saturday afternoon at the UNF Softball Complex.

The Ospreys bounced back with a 3-1 win in Game 2.

With the split, the Hatters are now 8-20 overall and 3-11 in ASUN play.

In the opener, Lizzie Shubert recorded a pair of RBI singles in her first two at-bats to lift Stetson to an early 2-0 lead.  The Ospreys plated single runs in the third and fourth innings to the game at 2.

With the score still knotted in the sixth, Nikki Steiniger singled and moved to second on a walk by Catherine Beaton.  A UNF throwing error with two outs allowed pinch-runner Jazmin Scott to score the go-ahead run.

The floodgates then opened as Elizabeth Jackson hit a clutch two-out two-run single, and Riley Russell followed with an RBI double to give Stetson a 6-2 lead.

Chloe Temples struck out the side in the bottom of the sixth and pitched a scoreless seventh to secure the victory.  In seven innings, she allowed just two runs on seven hits while walking none and striking out six.

In game two, Russell's sacrifice fly in the third inning accounted for the Hatters' only run of the game.

Jaime Tino went the distance in the circle, allowing no walks and just one earned run.

Paige Pfent went 3-for-4 with a home run to lead the Ospreys (16-20, 8-9).  The second game featured a two-hour rain delay during the fifth inning.

The teams will play the rubber game of the series at 1 p.m. Sunday.
