Hatters Split With Jacksonville on Saturday

DeLand, Fla. -- Danielle Diaz drove in a career-high four runs as Stetson defeated Jacksonville 5-2 in game one of an ASUN doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Patricia Wilson Field.  Jacksonville took game two 6-2 to win the three-game series two games to one.

Jaime Tino picked up the win in the circle in the opener and Lizzie Shubert hit her fifth home run of the season for the Hatters (6-16, 2-10) in game two.

Diaz got Stetson going in game one with a two-run double to leftcenter field in the bottom of the first.  Riley Russell and Shubert scored to give Stetson a 2-0 lead.

Tino maintained the lead into the middle innings and carried a no-hitter through four.  However, Madison Kennedy's first of two home runs on the day in the top of the fifth pulled the Dolphins to within a run.

In the bottom of the fifth, Diaz struck again, this time with the bases loaded. The Hatter senior lined 2-1 pitch up the middle for a two-run single, scoring Brianna Clary and Elizabeth Jackson. Nikki Steiniger followed with an RBI grounder as Stetson took a 5-1 lead.

Chloe Temples pitched the final two innings in the circle, allowing just one run. Diaz helped prevent further damage by turning a 5-2 double play with the bases loaded in the top of the sixth.

Tino (2-5) allowed just two hits and one run over five innings to earn the victory.

In game two, Shubert drove in both Hatter runs, going 2-for-3 with a single and a solo home run. It was her second round tripper of the weekend and fifth of the season.

Jackson and Clary each had three hits on the day to lead the Hatters.

Stetson will travel to Kennesaw, Ga. next weekend for the ASUN Crossover weekend.  Stetson will face Bellarmine, Kennesaw State and Lipscomb twice.
