Hatters Drop Two on Saturday, Look Ahead to ASUN Championship

DeLand, Fla. -- In the final two regular season games of the season, Stetson dropped a doubleheader to FGCU by 5-4 and 7-0 scores Saturday afternoon at Patricia Wilson Field.

The Eagles (26-17, 15-3 ASUN) registered 11 extra base hits on the day to complete a 3-game weekend sweep.

Lizzie Shubert went 3-for-5 with a double and a home run - her seventh of the season.

Elizabeth Jackson recorded four hits at the plate and an outfield assist. She threw a strike to home plate to cut down Kacie Huber, who was attempting to tag and score from third on a fly out to left.

Riley Russell and Nikki Steiniger also collected three hits on the day.

Lauren Hobbs and Lauren Klein pitched the first game for the Hatters while Jaime Tino and Klein combined efforts in the circle in game two.

Super seniors Jackson and Russell were honored prior to their final home games.  Jackson owns one of the top batting averages in school history while Russell is one of the program's top all-time base stealers.

Stetson will now compete for the ASUN Conference Championship, which begins with a divisional series next weekend in Fort Myers.  The Hatters and Eagles will play a best two-out-of-three series beginning with a doubleheader at 5 p.m. Friday.  The deciding game, if necessary, will be played at 2 p.m. Saturday.
