Eight Hatters Earn ASUN Postseason Honors

DeLand, Fla. -- Eight members of the Stetson University lacrosse team earned postseason honors from the ASUN Conference, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Senior attacks Riley Reagan (Windermere, Fla.) and Marina Rotella (Rutland, Vt.) and senior defender Christina Nikolai (Medina, Ohio) earned first team all-conference honors.  Senior goalie Kiera McCarthy (Brewster, N.Y.), senior midfielder Quinn Roe (Palm City, Fla.) and junior midfielder Jacklyn Lavoie (Waterford, Conn.) earned second-team all-conference honors.  In addition, Sydney Heimann (Kennett Square, Pa.) and Isabella Fernandez (Anna Maria Island, Fla.) were named to the ASUN all-freshman team.

Reagan earns her third career all-conference honor and lands a spot on the first team for the second consecutive time.  Stetson's all-time leader in assists (96) and points-per-game (3.06), Reagan registered six goals and a team-high eight assists this season. Her 14 points ranked second on the team.  Reagan posted a .462 shot pct. overall and a .800 shot pct. in ASUN play. She scored a season-high three goals in at Kennesaw State for her fifth career hat trick.  She also collected four assists in a win at Wofford.  

Reagan was also a unanimous selection to the 2021 ASUN preseason all-conference team.  She is the first Hatter to earn three all-conference team selections.

Rotella scored a team-leading 24 goals in just nine games this season. She ranked seventh in the ASUN in goals, 12th in points (28), and fourth in goals-per-game (2.67). Scored six goals in a win over Wofford, tying a career-high, and later scored four goals in the ASUN semifinals vs. Jacksonville. For her efforts, Rotella was named to the ASUN Championship all-tournament team.

Rotella finishes her career as Stetson's all-time leading scorer with 92 goals. She also holds the Stetson record for goals-per-game (2.19) and ranks second in school history in points-per-game (2.74).  It is her first career all-conference honor.

Nikolai, meanwhile, started all nine games on defense.  She led the team with 10 caused turnovers and ranked second overall with 20 ground balls.  Overall, she ranked sixth in the ASUN in ground balls-per-game (2.22), fourth-best among field players.  Nikolai previously earned a spot on the ASUN preseason all-conference team.

McCarthy earns her first ASUN postseason honor after starting seven of the team's nine games this season, playing 361 minutes. She led the ASUN in saves-per-game (9.43) and ranked third overall in saves (66) and save pct. (.402).  She also ranked second in the ASUN and 18th in the NCAA in ground balls-per-game (3.14), collecting a team-high 22 ground balls. McCarhty made 13 saves and posted a .492 save percentage in Stetson's win over Wofford.  She was a unanimous selection to the 2021 ASUN preseason all-conference team.

A starting midfielder in seven games, Roe scored nine goals and added one assist for a 10-point season.  She registered a team-high 7-game goal-scoring streak from March 6 to April 25, and she ranked third in the ASUN in shot percentage (.643). Roe scored two goals apiece vs. Jacksonville and Wofford, and she recorded 15 draw controls and two caused turnovers.  She was named to the ASUN Championship all-tournament team.

Lavoie made eight starts for the Hatters at midfield, recording six goals and one assist on the season. She led the team and ranked ninth in the ASUN with 23 draw controls, adding seven ground balls and two caused turnovers. Lavoie scored her first career hat trick in Stetson's win over Wofford on April 16.

Fernandez played in all nine games, making seven starts on defense. That included starts in all three ASUN games and the ASUN semifinals vs. Jacksonville. For the season, Fernandez registered 10 ground balls and three caused turnovers. 

Heimann appeared in seven games, making two starts in goal.  She made 21 saves on the season, including eight saves vs. Kennesaw State and five saves vs. #6 Florida.

The eight combined all-conference/all-freshman team award winners is a single-season record for the Hatters.
