Preview
The fourth-seeded Stetson Hatters will visit top-seeded FGCU in the 2021 ASUN Softball Championship Divisonal Series this weekend at the FGCU Softball Complex in Fort Myers.  The teams will play a best 2-of-3 series beginning with a doubleheader at 5 p.m. Friday and an if necessary deciding game at 2 p.m. Saturday.  The winner will advance to next weekend's "final four" of the ASUN Championship in Kennesaw, Ga. The tournament winner receives the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.

FGCU finished first in the ASUN's South Division with a league record of 15-3.  Stetson finished fourth with a mark of 3-15. Jacksonville (9-9) and UNF (9-9) will square off in the other divisional series.

Hatters ASUN History
Stetson is making its 30th appearance in the ASUN Championship and first appearance since 2018.  Overall, the Hatters are 60-52 (.536) all-time in the conference tournament. Stetson has won the championship five times (1986, 1987, 1988, 2007, 2014) and has advanced to the NCAA Tournament twice (2007, 2014).

All-Time Series vs. FGCU
FGCU leads the all-time series 23-19 over Stetson. The Eagles won all six meetings this season, although three games were decided by a single run.  Stetson is 2-1 all-time vs. FGCU in postseason play. The teams will be meeting in the postseason for the first time since 2014.

At the FGCU Softball Complex
Stetson is 4-4 all-time in postseason play at the FGCU Softball Complex.  The Hatters went 3-2 in 2015 and 1-2 in 2016.

On the Bases
The Hatters have stolen 61 bases in 32 games this season, an average of 1.91 steals-per-game. That total leads the ASUN and ranks 26th in the NCAA. The Hatters have two individuals in the top 30 nationally in steals per game: Riley Russell ranks sixth (0.84 steals-per-game) and Elizabeth Jackson ranks 30th (0.62 steals-per-game). Russell and Jackson rank second and third, respectively, in the ASUN with 27 and 18 stolen bases.  Brianna Clary ranks 10th with 12 steals.

Streaking At the Plate
Elizabeth Jackson is as hot as a Florida sidewalk right now.  In the past six games, Jackson is batting .667 (12-for-18) with a double and four runs scored.  She posted multi-hit games in all three contests against the Eagles last weekend.  She now leads the Hatters and ranks fifth in the ASUN in batting (.354). 

Power Surge
In the last 14 games, Lizzie Shubert is batting .390 with five doubles, four home runs, 12 RBI and a 1.305 OPS.  She went 3-for-4 with a double and a home run in game one vs. the Eagles on Saturday.  Shubert ranks third in the ASUN in slugging pct. (.642).

Finding Her Groove
Although unavailable to pitch this past weekend, Chloe Temples has stepped up her game over her past three outings.  She allowed just two earned runs over the past 24.2 innings (0.57 ERA). She has struck out 13 and not walked a batter while opponents are batting just .174 against her.  She did not allow an earned run in 8.0 innings against Lipscomb and she did not allow an earned run in a career-high 9.2 innings vs. UNF.

  • 7-6 when scoring first (1-18 when opponent scores first)

Career Leaders I
With her seven home runs this season, senior Lizzie Shubert ranks eighth all-time in school history with 22 career home runs.  Next up on the all-time list are Amanda Lindsey and Blake Hoorelbeke with 23 homers.  She is also 12th in school history with 87 RBI.

Career Leaders II
With her 71 career stolen bases, senior Riley Russell ranks seventh all-time in Stetson history.  She is 10  steals shy of tying Chrissy Morello for sixth all-time (81 steals).  Her .947 career stolen base percentage is the highest in school history for players with over 30 attempts.

The Head Coach
Stetson's Frank Griffin is in his 25th season as head coach of the Hatters and holds a school record of 761-550 (.581).  With 986 career victories in 32 seasons, Griffin ranks 26th on the all-time NCAA Division I wins list. He is 14 wins shy of the 1000-victory mark for his career.
