Hatters fall at USF

Tampa, Fla. -- The Stetson University men's soccer team fell 3-1 on the road Friday night in an intrastate matchup with University of South Florida.

The Hatters (0-3-2) fell behind early as the Bulls (2-2-1) took a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute on a goal from USF's Jeffrey Copper. In the 15th minute, the Hatters were issued a red card which led to Stetson playing with a man down for the remainder of the match. The USF offense thus continued to run the match as the Bulls found the back of the Stetson net again in the 41st minute to take a 2-0 edge into the break.

After the intermission, USF continued its barrage of shots on the Stetson goal as the Bulls outshot the Hatters 10-0 by the 51st minute when USF's Andres Freire scored the Bulls third goal of the match. In the 67th minute, Ajmeer Spengler took Stetson's lone shot on the night and netted it to put the Hatters on the board, but that accounted for all of Stetson's offense on the night.

The Stetson University men's soccer team will be back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 14 as the Hatters take on NCAA Division II Embry Riddle at home at the ATC. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
