Hatters head to Statesboro to face Georgia Southern Eagles

Statesboro, Ga. -- The Stetson University men's soccer team gets set to travel to Georgia Southern on Tuesday, Sept. 28 for a non-conference bout with the Eagles. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Eagle Field-Erk Park.

Recap
For the first time in the 21st century, a Stetson men's soccer team defeated a national top-25 team as the Hatters downed No.18-ranked Lipscomb 3-2 in overtime behind a golden goal from freshman Felix Aakerberg back on Sept. 25.

The Hatters took the lead in the 21' on an own goal from the Bison, but Lipscomb tied the match after a ricochet on a penalty kick led to a second chance shot in the 34'. After Lipscomb took a 2-1 lead in the 68' minute, Oliver Bryneus tied the match at 2-2 with only four minutes left in regulation. Then, only five minutes into the overtime period, Aakerberg netted the golden goal to make history for Stetson men's soccer.

Scouting the Eagles
Georgia Southern comes off a 1-1 two-match stretch as the Eagles fell 4-1 at Campbell back on Sept. 18 but got back into the win on Sept. 22 with a 3-0 shutout against the College of Charleston.

Adam Davie and Mauro Gutierrrez-Solis lead the Eagles with two goals and two assists each and have totaled six points on the season. Jeremiah Luoma has also notched two goals and has four points on the year. Jokull Blaegsson has been the predominant keeper for Georgia Southern, having started six of the Eagles eight matches and totaling 19 saves, a .613 save percentage, and two shutouts.

All-Time Series
Through 29 matches, spanning from 1981-2019, the all-time series between the Hatters and the Eagles is tied at 13-13-3. Stetson took the last match between the non-conference foes, 2-1 back on Sept. 18, 2019.

Hatters Notes
Through matches on Sept. 27, Stetson is tied for 22nd in the country with 2.25 goals per match and tied for 21st in total goals on the season with 18. Oliver Bryneus leads the Hatters with five goals scored, also putting him in the national rankings.
