Hatters Battle Past Bellarmine 64-53

Stetson holds 51-33 advantage on the glass

DeLand, Fla. -- Tatiana Streun registered a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double to help lead Stetson to a 64-53 victory over Bellarmine Thursday evening at the Edmunds Center.

Jamiya Turner added a career-high 15 rebounds as the Hatters (10-10, 3-4) won their second in a row.

"It was a game of runs, and I just didn't think we executed consistently," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said. "Offensively, we were not on the same page, and we had some real sloppy turnovers. I am happy we were able to win the game."

After leading by seven at the break, Stetson opened the second half on an 11-0 run to take a 43-25 lead. The Hatters still led by 17 in the fourth quarter when the Knights (3-15, 0-7) stormed back to within 7. Stetson hit just one field goal in the final period but went 10-for-12 from the line to preserve the victory.

Streun's double-double was her fifth of the season.  Alyssa Hargrove added 12 points and Ayanna Dublin chipped in 10. Dublin went 8-for-8 from the free throw line as the Hatters went 24-for-30 at the charity stripe as a team.

"I thought we had some people respond in the second half," Bria said. "Jamiya was much more aggressive, which was good to see, and I thought Aya had a good game overall."

Stetson dominated the glass by a 51-33 margin and allowed Bellarmine just two second chance points.

However, the Hatters hit just two 3-pointers, but one came on a clutch transition 3 by Khamya McNeal late in the third quarter.

Bailee Harney led the Knights with 21 points.

The Hatters will turn around and host Eastern Kentucky at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Notes:
  • Streun scored in double figures for the eighth time in her last nine games
  • Head coach Lynn Bria recorded career win 395
  • Stetson improved to 8-0 when leading at the half and to 9-1 when holding opponents under 58 points
  • Stetson has 98 rebounds in the past two games
