Match Recap: Men's Tennis | | Athletics Communications

Hatters top Florida National 7-0

DeLand, Fla. -- The Stetson University men's tennis team powered through a rain delay and two time changes as the Hatters shut out Florida National University 7-0 Saturday afternoon at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center. 

After the threat of rain shifted the match's start time, Stetson dealt with a delay and two more time changes, but that did not affect the Hatters (2-2) as they swept every match on the afternoon. In doubles action, Tim Gennes and Fabian Penzkofer defeated their opponents 6-1 while Ervin Eminefendic and Sven Thiergard won their match 6-0 to take the point for the Hatters. 

In singles action, Diogo Marques swept his match 2-0 as the senior took both sets 6-2. Like Marques, Eminefendic and Tristan Dumas swept their matches, each earning Stetson a point. Freshman Sami Ozzor defeated Alvaro Saucedo 6-2 and 6-0 in two sets to earn his first official collegiate win with the Hatters. 

"I'm proud of the guys for getting the job done today," said head coach Christophe Noblet. "I'm happy for Sami Ozzor, first spring win as a Hatter. That's never an easy thing to do and always a great memory so I'm proud of Sami for getting that first win. That's important for him and his confidence and overall important for the team to feel that we're deep and that we can always rely on the next guy to be ready to jump in and compete."

Stetson's men's tennis team will be right back at it on Saturday, Jan. 29 at 1 p.m. as the Hatters host Wofford College at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
