Hatters roll past Wofford with 4-0 win

DeLand, Fla. -- The Stetson University men's tennis team recorded its second consecutive shutout as the Hatters shutout the Wofford Terriers 4-0 Saturday afternoon at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.

On a cold Florida afternoon, the Hatters (3-2) retained their momentum from its 7-0 route of Florida National a day prior as Stetson won every match against the Terriers (0-5) except for two. The Hatters earned the day's first point in doubles action as two of the three Stetson pairs won their matches. Tristan Dumas and Alexandre Hillhouse won their doubles matches 6-3 while Ervin Eminefendic and Sven Thiergard took theirs 6-2, earning the Hatters the first point of the day.

In singles action, Eminefendic topped Wofford's Will Fullett 6-3 and 6-4 in two sets to take the first point in singles and give Stetson a 2-0 lead. Gennes followed suit and took his opening set 6-3 then earned the Hatters their third point taking his second set 6-2. On court three, senior Clement Hamel tallied Stetson's fourth point with a 6-2 and 6-4 decision and secured the Hatters' third win.

"I'm proud of the guys for competing as a team today as it was cold and a bit windy, so we knew those were not ideal conditions to play tennis, but when you play outside you have to compete," said head coach Christophe Noblet. "We know Wofford is a good team in doubles, so I was very happy to get thatdoubles point there and we showed dominance in a few lines in singles and getting us those points quickly. Everyone was competing hard, showing great fight, and playing like a Hatter today."

The Stetson men's tennis team will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 5 as the Hatters travel to Macon, Ga. to take on Mercer University. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
