Hatters top Mercer 4-3 in Macon

Macon, Ga. –The Stetson University men's tennis team came away with a 4-3 win over Mercer University on Saturday afternoon.

The Hatters (4-2) swept doubles action as all three Stetson pairs took their sets. On court one, Clement Hamel and Diogo Marques cruised past Lucas Wayenburg and David Georgadaze 6-4. Both pairs of Ervin Eminefendic and Sven Thiergard and Tristan Dumas and Alexandre Hillhouse came away with hard-fough 7-5 decisions and earned the first point for the Hatters.

In singles action, Stetson clinched the dual match with three straight singles wins. On court one, Marques went 2-0 with a pair of 6-4 decisions. Hamel and Fabian Penzkofer sealed the win for the Hatters as Clement topped Mercer's Danny Flynn 6-1 and 6-3 while Penzkofer bested Alexandr Koliev 6-4 and 6-0.

Two of the remaining three matches required a 10-point super tie break with the Bears (4-2) taking the final three but the Hatters had already secured their fourth win of the year.

"I'm happy we got the win today. Not the conditions we are used to coming out of Florida in February as it was really cold when we started the match," said head coach Christophe Noblet. "I was happy for us to get four points in a fairly quick manner which showed good dominance."

The Hatters face a remain in Georgia as Stetson looks to square off against Georgia State on Sunday, Feb. 6. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
