Game Recap: Volleyball |

Stetson Volleyball comes up short against Liberty

DELAND, Fla. – Hatter volleyball dropped an ASUN match to Liberty, 3-0, in the Edmunds Center on Friday night.

"We lost in the passing and serving game," head coach Yang Deng said "Our mind set was there, but when the passing and serving isn't, the offense isn't there. When they win and have more options, that's when the defense comes apart. That is both sides without offense it makes the defense difficult and losing both sides of the skill sets. We have to focus on our side of the net and perform at the highest level we can. We cannot lose our mentality when we go down, but make sure we stay focused on the present [regardless of score]. Volleyball is sometimes not about best or worst but keeping consistency."

The sides battled through the first set with neither side able to grab more than a three-point advantage throughout. After Stetson tied the match at 21, the Flames notched four of the final five points. The set featured 15 ties and six lead changes.

The sides alternated runs to start the second set. LU notched a 4-1 advantage, then the Hatters went up 5-4 with the teams alternating until the match was tied at nine. As the score climbed for both sides, neither team pushed beyond a three-point lead as the Flames took the second set, 25-22. This set had eight ties and four lead changes.

The home side fell behind early with Liberty taking an 8-4 lead and growing it to a 17-7 advantage until eventually taking the frame 25-12 and match 3-0.

Stetson closes out the compact schedule with Queens on the court in the Edmunds Center Saturday night at 7 p.m.
