Gabby Padilla selected to Puerto Rican National team training camp

Salinas, Puerto Rico -- Stetson University women's soccer sophomore Gabby Padilla was selected to attend the Puerto Rican Women's National Soccer team training camp at Albergue Olimpico in Salinas, Puerto Rico.

Padilla, a midfielder from Katy, Texas, was chosen to compete for a spot on the Puerto Rican Women's National Soccer team as the team prepares for the 2022 CONCACAF W Championship qualifiers. The CONCACAF W Championship serves as the CONCACAF qualifiers to the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup that will be held in Australia and New Zealand. The tournament will also serve as the qualifier for the football tournament at the 2024 Summer Olympics in France.

"I'm excited for Gabby to be a leader and be able to represent Puerto Rico," said women's soccer head coach Chris Bergman. "I'm excited for her development, and we're always excited for these opportunities for our players."

Padilla played in 17 games, making six starts for the Hatters in 2021. She played 792 minutes and tallied 11 shots with six of them on frame as she helped lead the Stetson midfield.

The Puerto Rican Women's National team is set to play Antigua and Barbuda on Feb. 16 and then face Anguilla on Feb. 19.
