Hatters Hold Off Jacksonville For Eighth Straight Win

Streun leads five Hatters in double figures with 14 points

DeLand, Fla. -- Stetson held off a late run by Jacksonville to win its eighth in a row, 65-55, Thursday night at the Edmunds Center.

Tatiana Streun led five Hatters in double figures with 14 points as Stetson (16-10, 9-4 ASUN) clinched at least a first-round home game in next month's ASUN Championship.

The Hatters led by 21 early in the fourth quarter, then watched as the Dolphins (14-10, 7-6) whittled the lead all the way down to five with 1:44 to go. However, a technical foul called against Jacksonville stemmed the momentum, and Stetson went 8-for-8 from the free throw line down to stretch to preserve the victory.

Alyssa Hargrove (12 points), Jamiya Turner (11), Kiya Turner (10) and Yazz Wazeerud-Din (10) joined Streun in double figures.

The Hatters shot 43 percent from the floor but did most of their damage during the middle two quarters.  Stetson outscored JU 23-9 in the second and 16-8 in the third to build an 18-point lead after 3.

Taylor Hawks scored 17 points to lead the Dolphins. The two teams split the regular season series.

The Hatters will travel to Liberty for a 2 p.m. game Saturday afternoon. The Flames (24-2, 12-1) are currently tied for first in the ASUN East Division and have won nine games in a row.
