Liberty Halts Hatters Win Streak, 65-53

Hatters Remain in Third Place

Lynchburg, Va. -- Hatter freshman guard Alyssa Hargrove scored a team-high 19 points, but Stetson had its eight-game win streak halted by Liberty, 65-53, Saturday afternoon in Lynchburg.

The Hatters (16-11, 9-5 ASUN) went exactly one month between losses, surging from last to third place in the ASUN East Division.  Stetson defeated two division leaders during the eight-game stretch, but Saturday's attempt to make it a perfect 3-for-3 fell just short.

Liberty (25-2, 13-1 ASUN), meanwhile, won its 10th game in a row and became the first team in the NCAA to win 25 games this season. Bridgette Rettstatt led the Flames with 24 points on 11-for-15 shooting.

In a matchup of two Top 30 defenses in the country, Liberty led by 11 at the break and by as many as 15 in the third quarter.  The Hatters chipped away and cut it to 8 midway through the fourth but could pull no closer.

Hargrove went 7-for-12 from the floor and 3-for-5 from the arc to score 19 for the second time in the past four games.  Kiya Turner was the only other Hatter in double figures with 10 points.  Jamiya Turner and Tatiana Streun added eight points apiece.

Liberty shot 51 percent from the floor and held a huge advantage on the glass, outrebounding Stetson 35-21.  The Flames converted 10 second chance points while the Hatters scored just 2.

Stetson saw its hold on third place slip to just one game over Jacksonville, who defeated Kennesaw State.  However, the Hatters can still clinch third place with a win in either of their final two regular season games.

Stetson will visit Kennesaw State at 7 p.m. Thursday and host UNF at 4 p.m. Saturday.
